Rotating-can-shelves

Fabulessly Frugal has given us this tutorial for an automatic can rotating shelf. This one can be put behind a couch, or made taller for a pantry. With limited pantry space, I may have to do both. Just in case the link doesn't work - here is a pdf of that page.

I might have enough room on the other side of my pantry for a shelf for just #10 cans
This system is awesome, but I don't have a garage.
This is the one I want to make. But instead of the cans rolling towards the front, I need them to roll to the ends. I am going to go to the wood department store tomorrow to price everything out. I think 1/4 inch plywood should be enough to hold cans on a narrow shelf. Mine will probably only be 12 inches wide. I don't have any more room than that in my pantry. Maybe a simple molding will suffice for holding the cans on the shelf - if it is less expensive than 1by2s or something similar.
